About the Event

This is a competition for the design of a virtual art space on Mozilla Hubs to be used to support CoAct's project mission to address college homelessness. Each entry can take a the freedom to intrepret the art space as they see fit. The story provided is a real student experience and can be used to guide your intrepretation of homelessness and the design of your entry. In addition, we have included a Miro Board that further breaks maps the emotional aspects of the story how our student champion is envisioning their story as an experience.

A full program summary can be found here which includes the project details and items informing the project.

The Problem:

There is a daunting misconception of homelessness and the effects of bias make it difficult for individuals experiencing homelessness to share. There is limited awareness to the challenge of students experiencing homelessness that further hinders action towards this pressing challenge.

Objective:

The deliverable will aim to educate the public on the misconceptions of homelessness. The insights gained will aid us in our journey to create solutions to this pressing challenge. It will be a space for the students experiencing homlessness to share their story and highlight their talents as we raise awareness on this pressing challenge.

Entry Categories:

Participants can choose to submit one of the following entries below or both. Take note that each entry is seperate and can not be submitted together.

Central Forum: A public gathering and meeting space that allows fellow peers to come together to share their lived experiences and record their journeys. The space will house a central interactive piece that has an individual profile (image or 3D model of significance) of each youth or student that is participating in the project. Interacting with the profile will trigger the Gallery. The forum will also encompass a small exhibit space to host unique highlights, content from our partners, or solutions that can be shared with students.

Gallery: The Gallery will be akin to a blank canvas. It will be a digital art space for students and youth to build their own shows.  The Gallery should allow the students and youth to create experiences for visitors to immerse in the journey of homelessness.

Deliverable:

All participants will be required to submit renderings of their interpretation of one or both of the spaces. Although the initial entry does not need to be a 3D model, all participants are encourage to consider how their designs will transfer into a 3D modeling software. The following will be expected with each entry.

Two boards with all the information they consider necessary to explain their proposal (plans, sections, narratives, perspectives, etc.).

The boards should be 24″(h) X 48″(w) in HORIZONTAL format.

The resolution of the boards must be 200 dpi, RGB mode and saved as JPG or PNG files.

Winning entries will be expected to submit a 3D model in obj. or gitf format to be used by CoAct to upload to Mozilla Hubs. CoAct will handle uploading all winning entries to Mozilla Hubs and will work with winning participants to preserve the intended look during the upload process.

Winning Entries will have the option of working with CoAct and their student champion to further develop the online space and the integration of their content.
